No, Momo, GrandBob, Bubbe and Papa -- I am not pregnant. We have adopted a new turtle. Jessica has, actually. "He" (not sure how you tell) is not too much bigger than a silver dollar, and Jessica can't think of a name for him (feel free to make suggestions below by clicking on "comments" and she will be sure to get them). She considered names from her current favorite series - Harry Potter -- but none seemed to fit.
So "Tortuga" wades happily in his pink plastic pond with an island and a palm tree. He has a dissolving calcium turtle shaped friend to help his shell grow. He goes to bed early, and likes the sunlight. Pretty typical. I think Jessica likes to talk to him when she gets sent to her room for normal pre-adolescent, 9 year old stuff. She comes out of her room in a much better mood. We can only hope!!
As I am sitting here, he is bobbing his head up out of the water and blinking at me from the patio, and through the window. I think he is saying "Hola" to you all, and would like you to come visit us!!
By the way -- Hurricane Dean was nothing more than a cloudy day with a few sprinkles, and then a chilly night. Not even a brown-out!!!
If you sign onto www.skype.com for free, you can see and talk to us fro free on your computer! My name is mary.b.lewis, and Keith is klewistp. Otherwise -- come visit in person!!!!
XO - Mary

how about pappasito for the turtle? sito for short works great too.
Thanks for including us in your lives. We wish you all health, love, faith and fun.
The blogs are great, and it is very generous of you both to share your experiences in such a readable, unguarded, way. Makes me wish I was there!!
Some of your adventures sound like the I love Lucy show!! I think there was an episode about an oven. The poor van - sounds like you just need a little duct tape!! Thanks for sharing. I think it's great that your family is experiencing this different lifestyle. I wish I could be as brave and adventurous. Keep blogging....

Leah says to name to Turtle "Speedy" after our long ago passed away Anole who was actually speedy when it came to eating crickets!
Boy turtles have a concave indentation on the underside of their shells. I let you think about Nature's reason for why. Just thought you'd like to know for reasons of naming the turtle. Wouldn't want to create any gender identity issues. lol
between the van story and the oven story, you guys may be back in Austin before you know it...at the request of the Mexican government and in the name of border relations.
Hola Mary .. I am so glad to hear that you and the familia are all doing good. The van story aside and the oven, things seem to be like normal family life. I personally think Jessica should name her turtle "Rey". One because he loves the sun em espaƱol el rey, and Rey or Ray seems like a friendly easy going name.
Stay in touch and I love reading the blogs.
Take care and until next time ..
Hello, Lewis familia...
You are missed in Austin. We are finally back and unpacking- won't scare you with the details. Clio misses Jessica, but she can't email yet (still on the "to do list"-- hook up computer, unpack 14 suitcases, go to school, etc.). Sorry, said I wouldn't go there.
Add us to your picture email list.
Cheers,
the Harralsons
Mary, I live in SMA too. I'm enjoying your blog. A different perspective since you have children. Looking forward to more of your adventures.
Mary, Keith & kids,
Wow! And I thought moving to the DFW metroplex was an adventure :>) We would love to come and visit! ;>0 (that is a threat...) Now way we would drive :>) Have been reading and SMA for awhile - there is a Unitarian church there that is in our district! You would be welcomed.
The boys started school today - Erick's first day of middle school - yikes! Ben was nervous not to know anyone in his new school, but he when he started chatting with his classmates, he never looked back...
Best wishes and we'll keep reading!
Carrie, Fred, Erick & Ben
Keith & Mary,
I just have to tell you that your stories have been such a joy to read. I visited my mom, who's been challenged with her health recently, in AZ, and one morning read all the stories up until the most recent ones to her. She loved them. We laughed outloud together, reminisced about our own similar stories and just enjoyed your story-telling so much that it became a topic of conversation for many moments throughout the day. Just thank you so much for sharing, for taking the time to write, and for being you. It's had an impact on us.
We're looking forward to the next ones!
Namaste in spanish,
April
Hey guys - ola from Austin. You should know that we had a reunion at the pool the other day - Michael, David, Austin, Evan and Esme, and we all said the only thing missing was you guys. I told them about all your van/oven stories and we laughed and laughed. Ah good times, for us anyway. It's so funny that you got Jessica a turtle because Michael says he wants one for his room too. We'd name it Smitty - we name all our small animals Smitty for some reason - and only hope that Michael doesn't let it loose in our bed. Not to give Jessica any ideas...
Be well - we miss you. Try not to blow/crash anything up for a while. It was first day of kindergarten today!
I am truly enjoying the Lewis adventures. We’ll just live vicariously through all of you! What an amazing experience!
Take care,
Lynne (and Steve, of course)
